Cape Otway - Great Ocean Road

By now you may have gathered that I'm pretty obsessed with cliffs and the ocean (and sailing). I've sailed this coast several times. It's impressive. It's big. On a yacht you can feel the power of the swell as it moves under the boats hull. At night, offshore, you can hear the roar of the waves hitting the cliffs. I can stare at this coatline forever... swell crashing with a foreboding sense. I always wonder what it would have been like on a tall ship as an early settler. Horrendouse I bet. It's cold, wild and very very wet.

The Otway series is a location not far from the famous Cape Otway lighthouse. It's one of the windiest places in Victoria. The series was filmed on stock from my collection. the stock is over 40yrs old. Tech warning: I shot on a 120mm homemade pinhole camera, at guestimate, long exposures.

There's quite a few in this series. Cape Otway (1) has been short listed in several art prizes in the past year.
